Retirement:  John G. Pike announced his retirement from the practice of law effective August 31, 2020.  He will be greatly missed by his law partners, many oil and gas clients and the Registers of Deeds in many counties across the state.  Effective September 1, 2020, he has elected to choose “inactive status,” but will continue to serve on the Kansas Bar Title Standards Committee at the request of the Committee in recognition of his extensive experience in examining titles over a career spanning 42 years.  We will all miss John’s ability to recite famous movie lines to make his point in an entertaining way.  Good luck to you, John, in a well-deserved retirement.  In recognition of his many accomplishments, his biographical information and practice areas are listed below.

Personal Background: Born Wichita, Kansas, September 8, 1952; married with three children. Private pilot since 1969. Active in management of the family farm. Certified Kansas Hunter Education instructor. Personal interests include hunting, fishing, and woodworking.

Professional Background: Practiced law in Wichita since 1978. Prior to the founding of Withers, Gough, Pike & Pfaff, LLC, John was a partner with the firms of Hall, Turner and Pike, Chartered; the Kahrs, Nelson firm; and Martin, Pringle, Oliver, Wallace and Swartz, L.L.P.

Professional Experience includes practice before the Kansas Corporation Commission, Kansas District Courts, the Kansas Court of Appeals and the Kansas Supreme Court; the Federal District Court for Kansas; the Kansas Board of Tax Appeals; extensive experience in abstract and ‘stand-up’ title examination in all oil and gas producing counties in Kansas. Professional Involvement: Former President of the Kansas Bar Association Oil, Gas & Mineral Law section.  Member of the Kansas Bar Association Title Standards Committee.  Member and former Director of the Wichita Association of Petroleum Landmen.  Member of the Kansas Electronic Recording Committee.  John has been listed in Best Lawyers in America since 2010.  John was named Best Lawyers’ 2014 Wichita “Lawyer of the Year” for the Mining Law; and he was also honored as a Best Lawyer for Oil & Gas Law. From 2015 through 2020, John was again selected for Best Lawyers in America in Mining Law and Oil & Gas Law.
