Kansas Board  of Law Examiners:  In 2009, the Kansas Supreme Court appointed Don to the 10-member Board of Law Examiners.  This involves writing essay questions for inclusion in the Bar Examination and grading the answers of those who take the Bar Examination.

Professional Experience includes the following:
  • Employment Law: preparation of employee handbooks, regulatory compliance reviews, litigation of employment law claims for plaintiffs and defendants, including discrimination, retaliatory discharge, wrongful discharge and wage and hour claims.   • Trucking Industry Defense: defends trucking companies and drivers in personal injury lawsuits.
  • Product Liability: defends manufacturers in a variety of product liability situations. See, Product Liability area of practice for additional information. Also defends big rig tractor manufacturers in product liability suits.
  • Insurance: analysis of insurance coverage and insurance defense litigation. See, Insurance Law area of practice for more information.

Legal Seminars: Has spoken at dozens of seminars sponsored by the Kansas Bar Association, Wichita Bar Association and other groups regarding litigation, employment law and other subjects.  Don has served as the Chairperson of the Wichita Bar Association Continuing Education Committee.

Publications: Co-authored with Alan Pfaff the Chapter on 42 U.S.C. 1983 in Kansas Employment Law, 2d, published by the Kansas Bar Association (2001).

Professional Background: After graduating from law school, Don worked for two years as a law clerk for the Kansas Court of Appeals. In 1990, Don began private practice with the Kahrs Nelson firm in Wichita, which at one time was the third largest firm in Kansas, and was a partner in that firm from 1994 through 1999. The firm of Withers, Gough, Pike, Pfaff & Peterson LLC was formed by five attorneys who were formerly partners at the Kahrs Nelson firm. 

Personal Background: Born in Elkhart, Indiana 1963. Don has been married to his wife, Linda, since 1986. They have four children. His hobbies include astronomy and billiards.
